Summary: "What are we to advertisers"
In the Article "what are we to advertisers", James B. Twitchell, speaks about profiling schemes of American advertising. Advertisers believe they know about their consumers, by profiling one but yet it always turns out as if they everything. We all grow and mature, and as we grow we tend to think different things and believe we need different products as we grow. Something that advertisers look at and watch as they look to search what people want. To explain advertisers jobs, "Rosser Reeves, the master of hard-sell advertising like the old Anacin ads, used to hold up two quarters and claim his job was to make you believe they were different and more importantly, that one was better than the other"(182). In other words Reeves explains about his products and the way he attracts his consumers making one believe between to products that are the same but different brands one will always be better than the other.

Response: I agree with this article and believe advertisers looks at everyone different. Especially when it comes to products that are the same but different brands. As we grow I believe a lot of us start visualizing the cost and material of the products we buy. For instance with clothing as kids we don't care what our parents would buy us we would wear anything and everything, but now as we age and grow we watch what society believes is the style of ages. We believe that having expensive brands make us look some certain style or even cool rather than buying a cheaper brand that looks exactly the same as the expensive brand. As I age I try to consume on my expenses, not going to lie I do own a couple of things that are expensive, but at the same time I am not willing to buy expensive things.

Summary:  "Man I killed"
In this story Tim O'Brien talks about one of his experiences on killing a young man. He explains in details how the young man looked after thee incident. Brien's reaction to what he had done, had made him feel "guilty " of something wrong he had done. Not knowing what to do or what to say. Brien didn't realize how affective he was going to turn out after his reaction on seeing the young man. He explains as he knew the man future, as if he had plans for his future. As his men told him their was nothing else he could of done to the young man, once the young man had appear it was life or death on Brien's hands.

Response:
I felt this story was really terrifying. If I would of been in Brien's stop I honestly wouldn't of known what to do. I couldn't imagine what he was going through after killing someone. How couldn't the other feel the guilt as he did. Being in war must be very hectic watching people die or take their lives for their country is pretty intense. If this was a just a little glimpse of a story what more goes on. I think my reaction would have been the same as his, freezing in the moment not thinking but reacting right away, if an enemy would approach.

The essay I have chosen to expand is the first essay we were assigned. Essay one was about advertisements, I had chosen Steve Craig's article on Men's Men and Women's women. How I plan to expand this essay is, on writing on the for different analysis: Men's Men, Men's Women, Women's Women and Women's Men. For this essay I had written on the analysis on Women's Women, where I used a Victoria Secret commercial, the commercial I used was the "I Love My Body". This advertisement targeted Women's Women and Men's Women. Although the commercial targets two analysis I will be looking for another commercial that targets Men's Women. Each analysis will have their on example of an advertisement.

Key Terms:
  • Forth Different Analysis
  • Men's Men
  • Men's Women
  • Women's Women
  • Women's Men

Summary:
I found it interesting on our reading in Tim O'Brien's book on chapters Enemies and Friends. Dave and Lee were two men who did not like one another. It all started by a missing knife, where Dave blamed Lee for stilling his knife. The two men broke out in a fight where Lee broke Dave's nose and had to be pulled aside for two days. The two men did not trust each other nor did not acknowledge one another. It took them months to get over their fight and put it past them. But after a few months Lee and Dave manage to get along. Where as they made a pack saying to each other if they were to ever get hurt where they'd end up on a wheel-chair they'd have took take ones life. As time had passed Lee had ended up getting hurt and lost one leg from the knee down. Their wasn't much that could have been done for the guy. Where as he laid passed out waking up every while waiting for the dustoff. As Lee would wake up he'd asked Dave not to kill him as frighten as he was. Dave did not want to do the honor one taking the man's life. Till the dustoff came to pick Lee up, then later the troops where told that Lee had passed while on the flight for help. Lee had seemed to be relieved that he hadn't been the one to take Lee's life away.

Response:
I believe that these two chapters meant something more; as a taught of friendship. Where two enemies can become friends on the long run. It teaches us where they two men weren't such found of one another at the begging. Where as they fought each other making it hard to have trust. But after while putting the past in the past the two men slowly became friends with one another not realizing it. I believe you can become friends with the people you once thought they were your enemy. I believe in the saying what's in the past is in past. Not everyone will be your friend, as you won't be everyone's friend.

Summary: Chapter 3 Maya Angelou's Text
In chapter 3 Marguerite mentions how momma was mocked by the troop of powhitetrash kids. She explains how momma sent her inside although Marguerite wanted for momma to go inside as well. This is an example on one of the prompts Professor Anitnora gave us on essay 3 which would be in the category of racism. The group of girls mocked momma and were making rude and smart remarks to her. As followed one of the girls disrespecting momma by also showing momma her, her unnecessary privates. The group of girls thought it was pretty funny on what they were doing to momma while Marguerite was so emotional full of anger and tears that she wasn't able to do anything for grandmother.

Response: I thought this scene was one of the best examples of racism in the text. I believe Marguerite felt horrible watching her grandmother be mimicked by disrespectful children. And also due to the remarks and rudeness by the girls I thought I was very racial of them and found it unnecessary they things they were doing and being said. If I was in Marguerites shoes despite how momma was towards her grandchildren I would of told those many things not giving one damn about what I'd say to them. Well that's my honest opinion if I were Marguerite.

Summary:  Chapter 10 on Maya Angelou reading-
In chapter 10 Maya talks about a situation that happens with her mother and Pat Patterson. She speaks about how one night Mr. Patterson mad a mistake on cursing at her mother. After the incident Mayas mother mentions it to her siblings (Mayas uncles) and grandfather. Mayas uncles were known for being protective and mean when it came to their family. Maya never seen her uncles and grandfather furious which thrilled her to see how mean her family really was. Her uncles and grandfather run into Mr. Patterson which wasn't very good. They beat him and let him know that he has made a mistake by cursing at their sister.

Response: I loved this part even though it was violent. It showed me what the meaning of family is and how protective they were for one another. I like that, because I my self have a family that is protective over one another. Their mean also but don't harm anyone. My siblings and I were raised knowing family is always first that their isn't anything compared than family. So I actually liked the fact the Mayas family weren't scared to stick up for their own. As I myself am the way Mayas uncles are I don't like anyone messing or cursing at my siblings they mean more than anything whether they are older or younger than me their my blood but most importantly my family.

Summary: One of this weeks reading I found interesting was Ian Daly, "Virtual Popularity Isn't Cool-It's Pathetic".  Daly talks about how its easy to have friends on the internet, friends you may or may not know. Through out the years social media has raised. For example Facebook which started off a network for college students and now is considered another my space. Social networks have taken up most of peoples daily lives. People have grown to have this fantasy of them being so popular or famous all of a sudden. They tend to have over 100 friends knowing they do not know everyone on their network, or might just know 20 people out of the hundreds that they have. Not just the world of fantasy acquires of the media, but how private is your privacy? People that you yourself can see your profile even though you have it on private. Friends can tag you in certain pictures and they'd appear on their friends notifications without you being their friends. Nothing on the internet you post is private its saved somewhere or seen by man without you knowing. Social media has became big and addicting to some individuals, and they don't even notice. People tend to post what their doing what their eat, where they are on vacation ect. You think only certain people can visualize your networks but reality is nothing is private any more on the internet.

Response: I'd have to agree with Daily. Their is so many people who actually think on social media that their actually famous. Some people can do the most ridiculous thing and can become so popular on the internet. Once people get some many followers or some many likes their hooked! and can't stay off their Facebook, Instagram, or twitter. I myself have seen how much people do just to get attention weather its doing something unnecessary or almost being naked. Not only they try to grab peoples attention or they also just stay on networks to see what are certain peoples next moves or what is everyone up to or who went to this party who and who isn't dating. At my job my own job I tend to see people not socializing because their too busy looking at their Facebook or updating a post. It has completely gotten out of hand. And for nothing being private on the internet also is an actual true statement. I had always thought because I put my Facebook private I thought no one was able to see my stuff or pictures without having them as a friend. People were able to grab my pictures and save them and even post them without permission. I gave up on Facebook too many people act different and aren't themselves or like to start drama when all of that is unnecessary. When will people start realizing how much time has been wasted on social networks.
